My Morning Laugh

Ok, this is just too funny not to post!
This morning as I was "putting my face on" (as I like to call it), William came in my bathroom to show me that he had gotten dressed as I had asked him.
"Mom! I did a underwear dance and a pants dance and a shirt dance!"
He was so excited. I was so laughing!
"Really? Wow! Can you show me your underwear dance?"
Now telling you about his dance just does not do it justice - you had to have seen it. But he proceeded to wiggle his bum and dip his shoulders, while spinning and hopping around and making funny little noises. It ended with a little "Yah!"
"Wow! That was pretty cool. Can you show me your pants dance?"
He basically repeated the same little dance, more hopping, and ended with a jump.
"Now show me your shirt dance."
This was the grand finale! Again, basically the same, but the jump at the end turned into more of a flying leap, ending with him sprawled on the floor. Gabriella and Tabitha had joined us by then and we were all laughing.
I told him that I have never had a 3 year old boy before, but he is a pretty funny 3 year old - and just keeps getting crazier!

Just my boy being goofy in the mirror

A Birthday Surprise!

I decided that since this was the BIG 3-0 for Rick, that we needed something extra special. With help from his mom & dad, his boss, and Gabriella keeping the secret, he was VERY surprised!
The day started off with me and the kids making German Pancakes and taking him breakfast in bed - a rarity at our house! For lunch we went to The Italian Place (his choice) and had salads & sandwiches, then we topped it off with dessert at Cold Stone, where we all tried something a little bit different than what we normally have. (I have found another favorite in the Dark Chocolate Peppermint!)
Rick spent the afternoon tinkering in the garage - he is working on building a frame for a drawing he did in high school. And my afternoon was spent secretly packing for overnite and making the slide show (previous post!)
Then it was off to his parents'. Rick had previously arranged for them to watch the kids while we, just the 2 of us, went out for dinner - and I had arranged for a bit more! His dad was great - did just what I needed! He asked Rick if he'd like to see and help him with his latest project in the garage. That gave me the distraction I needed to move the kids overnite things from the back of the van to the upstairs bedroom. And shortly after we were on our way for "dinner."
We went to Gepetto's - a little pizza place that Rick had been told was "romantic." Well, rock music and MTV's America's Next Top Model aren't really what I would call romantic - but the lights were dimmed and there was a candle on each table. The pizza was very delicious!
When we got back in the van to leave I told him that there was someplace I wanted to take him really quick before we picked up the kids and I gave him the address in Salt Lake. Then I called him mom to "let her know" that we would be a little bit later picking up the kids that nite. Just to make sure he didn't suspect anything. It wasn't until we got to our destination, and Rick read the sign "Armstrong Mansion: Bed & Breakfast" that it dawned on him. "Are we staying the night?!" He was so excited! I said, "Well, why don't you see if there's a bag in the back of the van for us." And what do you know, there was!

The mansion was beautiful! I love old houses and antiques. And we got an extra nice surprise when we checked in - a complimentary upgrade to one of the nicest rooms! And it was very nice - I loved the King size, canopy bed! And the jacuzzi tub was SO relaxing! And breakfast was so good - we both ate way too much! Anyways, we both had a great time. It was something we will never forget and Rick is already ready to book it for our anniversary!

Here he is!

This slide show is dedicated to my sweet hubby - Happy Birthday! I had a lot of fun making this. First off, I figured out how to use my scanner for the first time! Then I got to dig thru my box of photos - so many I had so totally forgotten about - it is way past time to scrapbook! And I realized that we don't have that many pictures of Rick and the kids! Shame on us - but now I know to take more of those!
And the music to the slideshow - what can I say. I love Alan Jackson and this is one of "our" songs. I tell Rick that I want him to sing this to me at our 50th wedding anniversary party. I get tears in my eyes every time I hear it. And it was so perfect this morning - as I was up making him breakfast in bed - German pancakes - this song came on the radio! I ran in the bedroom and turned it on in there for him and cuddled up with him for a minute. My picture selection of his younger years was very limited - but I had a lot of fun looking thru his mission pictures and all the pictures of us as we were dating. And I had to put in the one with him and my Cousin Kristina on his shoulders - if not for her driving my car in the ditch, we never would have met! :) Ideally, the music would have fit the pictures, but I am out of time and it just didn't happen, so here it is - hope you enjoy!

Happy Birthday Ricky Poo!

Yep - today is the big day! My little Honey Bunz is the BIG 30! This post is dedicated to him!

Getting to know my Sweet Heart:
What is his name? William Frederick Meyer, Jr (Rick)

How long have you been together? almost 7 years

How long did you date? from the time we were really dating until married was about 5 months

How old his he? 30 today!

Who eats more? Him - although he couldn't finish his Cold Stone today! He actually offered it to me - after I had finished mine!

Who said i love you first? He did - it was after our friends' Jennifer and John's wedding reception and we were at Pizza Hut

Who is taller? Definitely Rick - by about 1/2 a foot

Who can sing better? Him again! He inherited his dad's wonderful singing voice - you DON'T want to hear me sing!

Who is smarter? I would say he is more book smart than I am, but I am more experienced and knowledgeable in other areas.

Who does the laundry? I do mostly, but HE needs it done, he'll do it.

Who pays the bills? Me

Who sleeps on the right side? which side is the right side?

Who mows the lawn? That's Rick's job - he can do it about 10x faster than me!

Who cooks dinner? Me - except for Sunday, that is his night to cook!

Who drives? Mostly him, unless he is too slow and I am too impatient!

Who is more stubborn? We each are stubborn in our own ways.

Who kissed who first? It was more of a mutual thing - I knew it was coming and I was SO nervous - I felt like a 16 year old, about to get my first kiss again!

Who asked who out first? He did - I didn't even remember who he was!

Who proposed? Hmmm - that might be debatable, but I would say it was me - kinda

Who has more friends? Friends? I would say he has more friends that are close by, but I think I have more friends in general, except they all life far away!

Who is more sensitive? are you kidding?! Me - of course! He is a rock!

Who has more siblings? Me (I have 8 siblings, Rick has 4)

Who wears the pants in the family? I'd like to say both of us, but he might beg to differ!

3 Ballerinas

Well, if you know my son at all, then I really don't think this picture needs much explanation!
No, Gabriella and her best friend Hannah did not hold William down and put this pretty little pink princess ballerina dress on him. They didn't even have to bribe him. In fact, I think he is the one who started "dress-up" today! They make a pretty little trio, don't you think?

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

The kids are all in bed, have been for going on 2 hours, and Rick just headed to bed as well (he's been getting up too early all week), so I am finally getting caught up on my blogging! There hasn't been too much going on this week.

I always like to fix something a little nicer for dinner for Valentine's day. So tonite I made one of our favorites - Penne w/Ricotta, Lemon, & Asparagus. I have actually been craving this for awhile, but was not going to pay $4/pound for the asparagus, but I got lucky and it came on sale this week. It's really pretty simple, but I just don't make it as often as I'd like. Even the kids like it - asparagus and all!

And this year, I also tried out a new dessert recipe. This recipe for Molten Chocolate Mini Cakes comes from The Pampered Chef. However, it did not turn out at all how the picture in the Pampered Chef Season's Best Recipes book shows. Maybe because I did not use the Silicone Floral Cupcake Pan - I just used my regular old, boring cupcake pan - oh, and I think I must have cooked them about 1 minute too long. See, they are really supposed to be this pretty chocolate looking flower, with a liquid chocolate filling. How that works is a mystery - I think it's pretty cool that you just mix up 1 batter and the inside stays liquid, but that did not work for me - but they were still SO good! Very rich and did I mention how yummy they are? and easy! Yes, they were a lot easier than I thought they would be! I will definitely be making them again (sans Silicone Floral Cupcake Pan again) and aiming for that liquid filled center!

And yes, as you can see from the pictures (though it doesn't show up as good as I'd hoped), we did eat off of our China. Rick and I did at least - no fine China for the kids! I LOVE my China! We bought 1 place setting when we got married, and over the years Rick has surprised me with another place setting now and then - I think we now have 6 settings - halfway to where we'll eventually be - someday! I remember hearing a story sometime about someone who died and here was her beautiful this and that and china, things that she never used because they were too nice, and she wanted to wait for that extra special day to use these things and well, that day never came, and then it was too late. So I try and use my China and other nice things more often and even sometimes just for fun.

Bored? Try This!

A few nights ago Rick surprised us by coming home a little early - 5:15 instead of 5:45 or 6. So we were able to have dinner early, which the kids amazingly ate in a timely fashion.
At 6:30 we all found ourselves hanging around in the living room. It was wierd. I didn't know what to do! Normally by the time Rick gets home and we have dinner done, it is time to get ready for bed. But on this night, we had some time to kill. Gabriella quickly came up with this great game that kept us all entertained!

Recipe for FUN = a few of Daddy's Hats + 1 ceiling fan

How To Play: Everyone grabs a hat (make sure someone steals the one Daddy is wearing!)
Then madly throw them in the air, trying to be the first one to land one on the ceiling fan!

WARNING: It is NOT as easy as it looks!
ADVANCED RULES: Turn the ceiling fan on!

Our No Bake Cookie Pictures!

Here are the promised pictures - FINALLY!

Gabriella had the job of rolling the dough into balls - she took her job very seriously!

William's job was rolling the balls in sugar - he took his job even more seriously!

and Tabitha assigned herself the job of quality control - making sure the M&Ms were chocolately enough - a job which she took a bit too seriously!

The Finished Product!

My Day

My day started off with a call to Poison Control. (This wasn't the first time either!) Let me back up just a bit - I got to sleep in today! :) (Although, obviously, I shouldn't have!) Rick had gotten up early and left for work around 6, and I woke up around 7:45. A few minutes later, Gabriella came in and announced "William's on a stool and he got the chocolate marshmallows and figured out how to open them and has his mouth full of them and he ate 7 vitamins!" Wonderful. Now the recommended dose for a child his age, of 3 1/2, is 1/2 of a gummi bear vitamin - so if he really did eat 7 - that is 14X more than he should. My mind immediately flashed back to a morning where I'd woken up to find him with a guest's purse dumped out, and an open, dumped out bottle of blood pressure pills. Having no idea if he'd eaten any or not, I then spent the next 3 or 4 hours in the ER with him being monitored. Luckily everthing was fine. So today, fearing the worst, I call Poison Control and I could swear that wonderful lady was snickering. The worst that would happen, she told me, was he'd have a tummy ache and maybe throw up. And well, the mean mother that I am, I was kinda hoping he would have a little tummy ache and maybe learn a little lesson. But no such luck. He was totally fine.
So, we quickly got breakfast and were getting ready to take Gabriella to preschool, when the gal that I clean for on Wednesdays (in exchange for preschool) called and said I could have the day off! Of course, I was excited I didn't have to clean, but also bummed because I had nothing else to do to waste 2 hours. Sure, I could go wander around Target and spend more money on more things that I don't really need, but hey, they were a GREAT deal, but I just didn't feel like Target today. I went to start the van to let it warm up a bit and opened up the garage to see SNOW - lots of snow coming down - the kind of weather that I really HATE driving in. I went back inside, without starting the van, and Gabriella, who had just looked out the window, said "Mom, it's snowing really bad!" I think she was reading my mind! So we compromised and drove the few minutes to the library.
My kids LOVE the library! And it had been WAY too long since we'd been there. And at 9:30 in the morning, we had it pretty much to ourselves. We picked out some books and then the kids all cuddled up in the giant Luv Sac while I picked out some movies - I think that is their favorite thing about the library - new movies to watch!
As soon as we were home they wanted to watch The Magic School Bus in Outer Space, so I took advantage of that time and did some dishes and cleaned up the kitchen - it desperately needed it from yesterday! (I had 2 extra 1 year olds, so not much of anything got done!)
Then we had a bit of fun - we tried out a new recipe for No-Bake Cookies - no baking or cooking of any kind involved! The kids had a lot of fun with our little assembly line! Hopefully tomorrow I will get the pictures posted! Thanks for the fun and easy and yummy recipe, Joy!
Lunch time and nap time for Tabitha followed. William is outgrowing his naps and only takes them about 1/2 the time - he did lay down today but no sleeping. Gabriella practiced writing her ABCs and played Pollys. Then it was off to the Doctor for Tabitha's 2 year old check up and shots.
We arrived at the doctor's office right on time, only to be told that he had left 15 minutes ago to deliver a baby - those babies! Why can't they wait until the middle of the night to come? :) I knew the kids wouldn't last more than about 5 or 10 minutes being good - if I was lucky! So I asked them if they could go ahead and give my poor baby her shots while we waited for the doctor. I really hate having to hold my baby down while they poke her and her screaming! But a sucker cheered her up pretty fast and before she was done with her sucker, our favorite doctor arrived, fresh from delivering a healthy 8 lb 13 oz baby girl. Tabitha is still at the bottom of the charts for weight - 12th percentile, and is average on her height, so at least she is keeping steady!
Back home, Rick surprised us by getting home early! That doesn't happen very often. It was 5:15 instead of his usual 5:45 or 6 or later! Thanks Honey, you should surprise us more often! So we had dinner early, which everyone actually ate in a timely manner and at 6:30 we were all just sitting around in the living room - it was VERY weird! Normally it is closer to 7 before we finish up dinner and then it's time to get ready for bed. I wasn't quite sure what to do. But Gabriella solved that. She stole Rick's hat and began throwing it in the air, trying to get it caught on the ceiling fan! It is so amazing the things that keep kids entertained! Who'd have thought that a few hats and a ceiling fan would be the recipe for so much fun and excitement?! Rick and I even got in on it and within about 20 minutes we had all 5 fan blades holding a hat!
Quick baths - given by Daddy (thank you!), followed by a bedtime story and then bed. William, as usual, protested - he never wants to go to bed - "But MOM, PLEEESE! I'll give you a treat!" I love how he tries to bribe me!

Here's my 2 year old!

Here she is - all smiles for her Happy Birthday! Originally, her castle cake looked a bit better than what you see - but a certain little Bug got into it, so Nana did her best to fix it up! I have also added some pictures from our little party to the slideshow below, so check that out too! And I changed the music, too! We call it the "Beautiful Baby" song and we all love it. The kids love when it comes on the radio (they don't understand why I can't make it come on!) and we all sing the chorus together to Tabitha - she is our Beautiful Baby! And, I will admit, Tim McGraw is one beautiful man!! Yep, I have a crush on him - but don't worry, Rick is fully aware of it!

Happy Birthday Tabitha Rose!

I can't believe my baby girl is 2! And at this exact moment I am typing is when she was delivered! These last 2 years have gone by so fast and I (all of us!) have loved every minute with our little "surprise" baby!
